P.S. ARTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring arts education in Title 1 public schools. Their curriculum is sequential, each year building upon the previous years foundation of child centered skills in music, visual arts, dance and theater arts. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of P.S. ARTS, McKinley PTA and McKinley School we are privileged to provide 50 minutes of visual arts instruction once a week for all grades.
- P.S. ARTS instruction is aligned with the California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards and is monitored by independent evaluators, P.S. ARTS Department Chairs and school administration.
- P.S. ARTS programs make use of what Howard Gardner calls our multiple intelligences to stimulate critical thinking, problem solving and higher cognitive process in arts and academic disciplines.
- P.S. ARTS programs increase classroom teacher's capacity and confidence in the arts, relating to their curriculum, building a wider constituency for the arts in schools and community.
- P.S. ARTS is active in the educational community, offering arts-related workshops for classroom teachers. Our workshops are designed to inspire and instruct teachers how to integrate creative expression and the arts into the core curriculum.
