Dear McKinley Families,
McKinley Elementary is off to an amazing start of the 2007-08 school year! Our McKinley families can expect many opportunities for community building throughout the school year. To begin, we will hold our 2nd Annual Beautification Day on Saturday, September 8 from 8:30-3:30. We invite all McKinley families to join us in beautifying our kindergarten yard, painting, and sprucing up our garden.
During the school year, families can participate in a variety of Family Nights centered on Literacy, Math, and Science. These evenings will be opportunities for parents and students to learn together through hands-on, fun activities led by teachers and other educational specialists. Thanks to the support of our district and the direct investment of our families, we will continue to provide music and visual arts instruction on a weekly basis to all students K-5.
Communication from school to home will continue throughout the year. This Opening Packet is the very first important communication we will have with you. Please carefully review all information and fill out the necessary forms. To assist families in sorting through important information, we will send home a Weekly Wednesday Folder with important flyers and notices. This endeavor continues to be successful only with your support. If you are able to assist with stuffing these folders on a weekly or biweekly basis, please sign up on the PTA volunteer form included in the packet. This is a great way to volunteer and mingle with other McKinley parents.
The McKinley School Calendar has important dates of upcoming school events as well as contact information for school personnel. One of the events you will see is the “Coffee with the Principal.” This is a great opportunity to learn about current events at McKinley and SMMUSD. Flyers will be sent home describing the topic, time, and place. The calendar also serves as a handbook with some of our most important policies “at a glance.” Two documents you will receive on Back to School Night are the Parent/Teacher/School Learning Agreement and the newly revised McKinley Parent Handbook. We will review these documents with you and answer any questions you may have.
We are looking forward to collaborating with you during special events and beautification efforts throughout the year. Please contact the office if you should have any questions. We hope to see many of you at the “Coffee with the Principal” meetings, PTA, Governance and ELAC meetings, as well as at the school-wide community events.
